What to Wear, Where to Go, and How to Feel Confident in Front of the Camera
Senior year of high school is such an exciting time—college applications, prom plans, and yes, senior photos!
As a Vermont-based senior photographer, I’ve worked with so many amazing students from Burlington, Richmond, Stowe, and beyond to create portraits that feel fun, relaxed, and actually like you.
Whether you're looking for a dreamy lakeside session or something more laid-back and sporty, this guide will help you prep like a pro.

💡 Tip #1: Choose a Location That Reflects You
Best Locations for High School Senior Photos in Vermont
Your senior photos should reflect who you are, and Vermont has no shortage of stunning backdrops:
Oakledge Park or Waterfront Park in Burlington – relaxed, natural, and perfect at golden hour
Downtown Richmond or Montpelier – colorful murals and urban textures
Your high school field or track – especially if you’re into sports or band
Your own backyard – sometimes the most meaningful spots are the ones closest to home
📸 Pro tip: We can always do a mix of locations if you’re torn—think nature + town for two totally different looks in one session.

What to Wear for High School Senior Pictures
Your outfits should feel like you on your best day. Here’s how to keep it stylish and stress-free:
Bring 2-3 looks: something casual, something dressy, and maybe something fun like a sports jersey or hoodie
Stick with solids or subtle prints—no neon or loud logos
Layers and textures (denim, flannels, light jackets) look amazing on camera
Think about accessories: rings, earrings, a favorite hat, or even your sneakers
Don’t forget your cap and gown (even if you’re not graduating just yet—it’s a fun sneak peek)
👟 Pro tip: Try everything on beforehand and snap a few mirror pics so you can see how it photographs. Ask your bestie for their input!
📸 For parents: Encourage your senior to wear something they actually feel good in. Confidence always shows on camera!

Make it Personal
Want to include your dog? Your guitar? Your favorite book or skateboard? DO IT. Your senior photos are a celebration of you, not just a yearbook requirement.
We can even create a vibe around your hobbies or favorite color palette (you’d be surprised how Gen Z you can get with it 😎).

💡 Tip #4: Trust the Process
Parents, I see you! You want this to be special and stress-free. I keep communication clear and simple—we’ll go over the session plan, timeline, and even help with outfit choices ahead of time.
Before the session, you’ll get:
A prep guide with outfit tips and what to bring
A location brainstorm if you’re stuck
Clear directions for meeting up and how the session will go
After the session:
You'll get a sneak peek within a few days (because I know you’re excited!)
Your full gallery is delivered online, ready to download and share
You can order prints, grad cards, and keepsakes right from your gallery

Let’s Get it on the Calendar!
Most Vermont high schools have yearbook photo deadlines in the fall—so it’s best to book your session between late spring and early fall of your senior year.
Once you book with me, you’ll receive a full prep guide, outfit tips, and location ideas. I’ll even help you pick which outfits go best with your chosen spot.
